Our Lacquer Paintings Offered to UNESCO Members

Artisans Angkor was delighted to receive a special order of lacquer paintings from Cambodia Airports to be offered to the UNESCO committee members (representing 21 countries in the world) during the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee which was held in Siem Reap from June 16th to 27th, 2013. During this international meeting, the UNESCO members review the classification of the World Heritage sites and discuss about adding new ones.

Our artisans were proud to produce for this occasion around 1400 pieces of two different kinds of lacquer panels both depicting typical Cambodian landscapes: one represents a view of Angkor Wat temple seen from Phnom Bakheng and the other one shows a traditional Khmer house on the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake.

The patterns of the panels were entirely drawn by hand before being covered with several layers of coating and lacquer. These gifts were an amazing opportunity for Artisans Angkor to showcase genuine Khmer handicrafts and to promote Cambodia’s wonders at the same time.
