Artisans Angkor and Cambodia Airports

On december 22th, 2011, four craftsmen and women from Artisans Angkor went to Phnom Penh airport during one week to clean the stone statues which are displayed in different parts of the international departure area. These sandstone pieces, which depict some famous symbols of the Angkorian era such as the Durga or god Shiva, were hand carved at Artisans Angkor workshops. This cleaning will be followed by the affixing of revamped signs giving technical information about each piece.

On march 30th, 2012, during one month, Artisans Angkor, in partnership with Cambodia Airports, invited the visitors of Siem Reap international airport to discover the secrets of handmade production of traditional silk scarves, ornamental sculptures and lacquerware. Our artisans have brought their tools and pieces to the international departure hall to present traditional Khmer craftsmanship: silk weaving on a loom, ikat technique (tie-dye of threads), wood carving and lacquering. This special exhibition lasted until the end of April.
