During the Khmer New Year holidays, from April 14th to 16th, 2013, Artisans Angkor was delighted to participate in the “Angkor Sangkran Trade Fair” that was organised in front of the Angkor Wat temple by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) which is led by His Excellency HUN Many in cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.
Artisans Angkor hosted a 160 square meter-booth which featured six craftsmen and women who proudly showed their skills in silk weaving, cocoon reeling, ikat technique, wood carving, stone carving and lacquering. Diverse kinds of crafts and silk produced by hand by our artisans such as stone and polychrome statues, majestic lacquer paintings, golden items as well as silk clothing, scarves and other accessories were displayed and the techniques to make them were explained.
During this three-day celebration, Artisans Angkor’s booth was honoured by the visit of H. E. Deputy Prime Minister Sok An as well as Siem Reap Provincial Governor H. E. SOU Phirin.
The fair which aimed at promoting Khmer culture and traditions through a wide variety of exhibitions, games, dances and music performances, was a resounding success since about 150 000 people attended the event.
